Problem :i've been in drumline for like 2 years now ...and still know close to nothing about drumming...it sux cause i want to learn ...REALLLy bad but our insructor is a drunk and knows nothing about drumming ...everything our drumline knows we taught ourselves....its sad ...we have like 2 warmups that we do and 3 cadences that we play all the time ...i kno that our drumline could be amazing ...you can tell we have a lot of potential ...but we have no one to help us or to push us to learn new ANYTHING...we aren't given the opportunity to learn anything new ...we HAVE to play wut our instructor wants us to play and thats IT!
One of our best players wrote a cadence and the WHOLE drumline wanted to learn it ...we got in trouble ...it wasn't what our instructor wanted us to play ...he says "we can only play what he gives us to play" ...but he doesn't give us ANYTHING ....HELP wut do i do?

usually instructors get fired for not doing a good job. maybe your band cant afford to get rid of him financially.

Talk to your line about it and confront him and your BD as a whole.

Give him some coffee with a laxitive when he's hung over. While he's in the bathroom during practice, play whatever the heck you want.

The obvious answer in this situation to tell the band director...however if the band director decides not to do anything about this, there are ABSOLUTELY other options that you can pursue...you can go to the band boosters (the parent organization that basically runs the band program), or you can go to the school board...tell your principal or any administrative person in your school such as a guidance counselor or something of this nature...they will be FORCED to do something about this, because there are a lot of things that go down behind closed doors that you do not know about...just wanted to let you know that there are many other things that you can go and do...
