Ok, I play quads(we have 3 quads)on my drumline and there is a snare who wanted to play quads. The band director picked me over him because i flat out did better on my audition so now he and his little posse are mad at me. Unfortunately (and fourtunately?) we have a BIGGGG drumline this year and this is one of the first times that we have had 3 quad players. I ended up with the old and raggedy quads so any time i get to play the god ones, i jump on the opportunity and anytime one of the good quads are available, he wants to play them too, even though he won't play quads when we perform.
Today our drum captain(plays quads) was absent so instead of playing with my quads, I play his. As i get ready to mount up, The popular snare drummer and his crew come over and say that he is going to play the drum captain's quads today. Well I igonore them and continue to use the quads.
At the end of the period, when we got ready to put the drums up, he and his crew start saying how the dum captain is going to beat my **** because i played his quads. Here's my thing, the DIRECTOR SAID NOTHING WHEN HE SAW ME GETTING THE QUADS OUT,and if the drum captain is going to like the fact that I played his quads, and my instrument is the quads, what would he have said when a SNARE DRUMMER PLAYED THEM. THINK ABOUT IT.

ADVICE,SUGGESTIONS,COMMENTS,
I WANT/NEED THEM ALL

THANKS IN ADVANCE,
CONFUSED QUAD

Hey man,

That is stuff you just have to talk to him about. One thing I learned this summer that has really helped me is that if you got beef, throw it on the table man. Get it done and over with, work that shizz out. So talk to him, agree on something. Or maybe make a sacrifice. Just hafta be mature and work it out with him.

Considering that he doesn't even play the instrument, he really shouldn't be playing them during class, should he?
If it's a free day, I understand messing around. But if you're working on show music or certain things, he should be on his own, and not worrying about you.

Did you talk to your captain before playing his drums? I know it drives me crazy when someone uses something of mine without asking. That could make him stop saying that the captain is going to kick your butt if you know that he doesn't mind you playing his drums, and you could tell him that.

Just sit down and talk to the guy and tell him that he doesn't need to give you junk for the things he has been. But in a nicer way than that.

Why practice on an instrument you're not going to perform on?

Well it seems he apparently couldnt play to begin with just tell him its not his place and he should stop being so full of himself and for him to take the stick out of the place dont shine and open his eyes. He wasn't meant to play tenors, and tenors love other tenors, but hate snares

If you are working on a specific song that he does not play quads in then he does not have any business playing on the quads whatsoever. This is something that you need to talk to your band director and your drumline captain about.
If the guy wants to play the quads then there is always time OUTSIDE of practice or class. It's high school which means you have a LOT of time in your hands.

As a response to what hyperionmsu said before in this thread, pracicing on an instrument that you dont perform on could lead you to being able to play that instrument in a future season. You were probably talking about something completely different from what I just mentioned, but oh well....

I have a simple rule for the line that I teach. If it's not the drum you were assigned, don't touch it.
