Anyone have a clue as to what brand/type of mallets the Ohio State University Marching Band uses?

A picture is located: http://www.printroom.com/ViewGalleryPhoto.asp?userid=EdBert1&gallery_id=111651&image_id=32

I've looked everywhere, but can't seem to find them... they have two-sides, I believe one is felt, and the other is plastic.

looking on websites, i think its a Pro Mark swizzle stick taking an ATH2 and an ATA1. Maybe Pro Mark does it custom for them. It's definitely not Vic Firth. Possibly IP, but probably Pro Mark.

hehe that guys bald.

They ones pictured are the American Drum HG9 Double-ends with athletic tape used for the grip, however, this past season the quads have started using a double-ended version of the JB6 Jitterbugs (with the black, plastic head on one end, and a white felt head on the other).

Oh, and our percussion instructor, Gary Hodges, may not have that much hair, but he's an awesome teacher and an awesome percussionist.

I should probably review these mallets in the review section, but I'll say it here as well - these mallets are crap. I had to use them for the majority of my senior year, and I had a terrible experience with them. They felt very flimsy, if you will, and produced a very thin sound on the drums. And the clear tips didn't last at all...although they were the only reason I was able to convince our instructor to let us play with Vegas.

Well, I used the American Drum mallets with the clear lexan heads throughout high school and never had many problems with them. The mallets that we use in TBDBITL have the same black, lexan head as on the Jitterbugs. The ones pctured in the link in the first post are the older, clear Lexan mallets.

Of course, I always found that the larger head of the American Drum mallets with clear Lexan heads created a fuller sound in comparison to the thinner sounding Vegas.

I like the American Drum HH6 Headhunters. They have a 1½" hard black head, which is just slightly larger than the 1¼" heads found on most hard mallets.

I used 'em in drum corps in the early '90s and they proved to be really solid mallets. So I ordered a few sets for the high school I'm working with this year, figuring the slightly larger contact patch will give a little extra depth to the tenor sound (old, shallow 8-10-12-13 Yamahas). They had the same sound and feel that I remembered, but we had a problem with a few mallet heads cracking.

But in American Drums' defense, nobody has better customer service. It took one phone call and they had replacement mallets on the way the same day.
