First, before I give some suggestions, I want to thank you for what you are doing. Some people may not agree with us being in Iraq, but the bottom line is you're there serving your country and I thank you for that.
As a veteran myself, I wish I could say something that would motivate you to practice or play. (I, however, was a musician in the US Navy, so I was playing all the time.) If you played back home then I would use that as my motivation. Anything that can take you away from where you are right now and help remind you of "normal" life has to be a good thing. So that would be my motivation. I'd let practicing and/or playing take me back home so I could forget being there (in Iraq).
I hope that made sense and I hope it helps.

I also want to thank you for what you are doing for America.

Since you have access to internet, some drumline lot videos would be helpful, or some DCI shows. Vic Firth should have some, or go onto Google Video and type in DCI for the search. Every time after I watch some of that stuff, I always go practice for a while. But, if you are not able to get online very often, then maybe for Christmas (if it ok with your officer or squad leader or whoever you answer to) ask someone for a technique book, or a video. I find watching and reading about the proffesionals gets me very motivated.

Again, thank you very much.

There's always the thought of stepping out onto the field with your favorite corps, or even practicing with them, for that matter. that usually makes 16-on-a-hand a little bit more interesting. Also, if you play with a group back home, take time to write music. It'll work your mind, and your chops, and adds a little more spice to simply playing.

"What" ain't no country I ever heard of. They speak English in "What?" English, man... do you speak it?

You should want to practice to get better i try to get to the best i can i mean 8 on a hand for like and hour then some 16th note check and some other variations + i loke my self in the bathroom so there is no distractions.

Ooh-Rah man, plain and simple

If you are over there in Iraq, you should maybe listen to Some of the Music there, becaue i find that new music(no matter how bad) encourages me to Pick up some sticks and start to hack away. I hope you Stay Safe Soldier.

Hey, I have always been told that if you depend on someone else to motivate you, when their gone what do you have. YOUSELF. Always know that there is someone out there that is better than you, and they are practicing right now. Whether its hybrids or an audition piece, their practicing. If you have the picture in your head of getting better You WILL practice because you want to become better than you ever thought you could. Practice, and when you get back people will be blown away by seeing how much you can accomplish when YOU put YOUR mind to something. Anyway good idea bringing the snare. Good luck.

Thank you so much for serving for our country. What branch are you with? Anyway, you can always write your own snare piece and get the motivation to play from what you have written and the ideals that motivate you to play.

always be humble-it helps in two ways#1 it's exactly the oppisite of cocky, nobody wants to here anyone blaber on about how good they are,and #2 always know there is someone better than you,so if you practice you can get better than that person; yeah i know ;another thing with the cocky, actions speak louder than words.
